Inquiries & Initial Consultations
If you have questions about DHHW or are interested in meeting with one of our attorneys, please contact us at (301) 340-9090 and ask to schedule an initial consultation. You will be directed to an intake specialist, who will ask questions about your situation, with which attorney you would like to meet, and when you would like an appointment. Prior to scheduling an appointment, we confirm the attorney's availability and ability to take on new cases, as well as if there are any conflicts preventing us from meeting with a potential new client. You should expect to receive a confirmatory call shortly afterward to confirm if the attorney is available to meet with you and to set the appointment. You may be asked to bring certain documents with you. When you arrive for your initial consultation, you will be provided with an Initial Information Form to complete, which often takes 15-20 minutes. The Form requests general background information about your family and situation. When complete, the attorney will briefly review the Form and join you for the consultation. This information is kept completely confidential. Our consultations generally take 1-2 hours. Usually, the attorney will learn about you, your situation, and concerns; you will learn about your rights and obligations; and, the attorney will answer your questions, and discuss options and next steps. The time for the consultation is billed at the attorney's hourly rate, which is given to you at the time you make your appointment, and payment is expected at the end of the consultation. Selecting an attorney to represent you is an important decision that should be made after time to consider what you and the attorney have learned. After the initial consultation, we will follow-up with potential clients to finalize arrangements. Upon our agreement to take on your case, you will receive an Engagement Agreement to review and consider. After you return the signed Engagement Agreement and pay the retainer fee, we will commence our representation of you. |
